TOKYO, July 24 Kyodo -
At least 17 people died Saturday in Japan after exhibiting symptoms of apparent
heat exhaustion as a heat wave continued across the nation, according to
reports compiled by Kyodo News.
The 17 consisted of 10 in Saitama Prefecture, three in Chiba Prefecture and one
each in Gunma, Ibaraki, Saitama and Mie prefectures.
Temperatures exceeded 35 C at more than 150 observation points in Japan,
marking 38.6 C in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, and 38.4 C in Tatebayashi, Gunma
Prefecture, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
