Negotiations with 5+1 group fruitless: Iranian MP

TEHRAN, July 26 (MNA) – Resumption of talks with the 5+1 group under the previous conditions will yield no result, MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi told the Mehr News Agency on Sunday.

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton had previously called for resumption of nuclear talks with Iran in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on the sidelines of an international conference on Afghanistan in Kabul.

Negotiating with the 5+1 group (France, the United States, Russia, China, Britain, and Germany) under the condition that they hold talks with Iran and then look for a resolution is of no avail and should not take place, the MP added.

Because of this Iran has proposed new conditions for the negotiations, and the major powers must show their commitment to NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty), Boroujerdi, the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee chairman, stated.

Before, President Ahmadinejad had announced that nuclear talks with the 5+1 group cannot begin until the major powers revise their stance toward Israel’s stockpile of nuclear weapons, agree to include other countries in the nuclear talks, and agree to changes to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Elsewhere, Boroujerdi noted that involvement of new countries (Turkey and Brazil) in the negotiations with 5+1 group will be fruitful. However, the Supreme National Security Council should decide on Iran’s terms for their presence at the negotiating table.
