Execution awaits crystal meth traffickers: Iran's commander
TEHRAN, Aug. 2 (MNA) – By the final approval of an amendment to a law on illegal drugs severe punishment including execution will await crystal meth (methamphetamine) traffickers, a senior commander announced on Sunday.
Finally, the Expediency Council ratified an amendment to a law on illegal drugs on Saturday after three years of efforts by police, said Hamid Reza Hossein-Abadi, commander of the anti-drug squad of the Law Enforcement Forces.
The new amendment has been submitted to the Supreme Leader for final approval, the general told the Mehr News Agency.
He went on to say that this amendment entails compulsory treatment of the drug addicts and if approved punishments for crystal meth traffickers will be equal to those for heroin smugglers.
Crystal meth traffickers and producers, arrested by police, will be fined and sentenced to jail, and if they commit the crime again, they will face punishments including life imprisonment and execution, the commander noted.
