Tehran to host joint concerts of Iranian, Italian harpists
TEHRAN, Aug. 2 (MNA) -- The Iranian and Italian artists will hold “A Night with the Harp” on August 3 and 4 at the Tehran's Niavaran Cultural Center.
Conducted by the harpist Fataneh Shahin, the ensemble that includes Italian harpists Valentina Meinero and Petra Arman along with Saeid Dolat-Zarei on ney from Iran, will perform the concerts on both days.
“I was introduced to Valentina last year when I went to Italy to buy harps and she was eager to do performances in Iran,” Shahin mentioned in a press release on the Iran Music Association website.
The group had brief rehearsals in March in Switzerland and the rehearsals began in earnest a month ago, she added.
“I have selected music from the Baroque to the contemporary era composed by Carlos Salzedo, Gaetano Donizetti, Michael Amorosi as well as three pieces by the Iranian musicians Abolfazl Rahbarian, Arvin Sedaqat-kish and Arash Abbasi,” she mentioned.
Unfortunately, harp as a popular instrument dating back thousands of years in Iran has been forgotten and should be reintroduced to Iranians at this time, Shahin concluded.
