URMIA, Iran, Aug. 4 (MNA) -- Iran rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat China in a five set competition here in the 2nd Asian Men’s Cup Volleyball Championship on Tuesday night.
Iran lost the first two sets with results of 26-24 and 25-23 in a full-packed hall. The defending champion came back to win the three final sets 25-23, 25-16,19-17.
“First of all, I thank our fans for their support from the start to end. They created an excellent atmosphere,” Iran coach Hossein Madani said.
Iran is to play Japan in the semifinal round on Thursday.
“We will take nothing for granted against Japan. Iran’s senior team has lost to the Japanese junior team once after underestimating them,” Iran’s captain Alireza Nadi stated.
Iran won the first edition of the competitions by beating South Korea in the final game in Thailand in September 2008.
