TEHRAN, Aug. 4 (MNA) – A massive explosion in the Pardis Petrochemical Company in the southern port city of Assaluyeh caused a huge fire and killed five workers.

A ruptured gas pipe is reported to have been the cause of the explosion, sources told the Mehr News Agency.

The incident took place at 14.00 p.m. local time.

The explosion and the ensuing fire also damaged parts of the petrochemical company.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inaugurated the second phase of Pardis Petrochemical Company last month in Assalouyeh, southern Iran.
