Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan’s interests intertwined: Leader

TEHRAN, Aug. 7 (MNA) – Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan have very close relations with each other whose interests lie in closer cooperation and implementation of the previously signed agreements, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution has said.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with President Ahmadinejad and his Afghan and Tajik counterparts here on Thursday.

President Hamid Karzai and President Emamali Rahman visited Tehran on Thursday to participate in the trilateral summit involving the three Persian speaking countries of Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan.

There are certain states which seek to obstruct the cooperation between the three countries, Ayatollah Khamenei noted, calling for more vigilance in the face of the enemies’ threats.

Elsewhere in his talks the Leader said, “Foreigners, who came to Afghanistan with the slogan of establishing security and democracy, are now targeting civilians and their presence has had nothing but sedition and corruption for the Afghans.”

He went on to say that Iran is ready to share its experiences with Afghanistan and Tajikistan in different fields, particularly in scientific and technological spheres.

The greedy global powers are pursuing their own interests in the region, but now the situation has changed as regional nations have become more watchful of the heinous aims of foreign powers, the Leader explained. The Leader also said the power of the hegemonic countries has been reduced to a great extent in comparison to the past.
