Turkey overpowers Iran in Adidas Istanbul Basketball Cup
TEHRAN, Aug. 7 (MNA) -- Turkey basketball team shocked Iran in opening game of the Adidas Istanbul Cup on Friday night.
The host, who prepares itself for the 2010 FIBA World Championship, beat Iran 93-53. Last weekend, Iran played in the Stankovic Continental Cup in China, but came in last against the host, Australia and Slovenia.
"These games are very important to us before the group stages of the FIBA World Championship," Veselin Matic said.
"According to the Asian rankings, we're obviously a strong team. But we need to play teams from around the world to find out our real strength," Iran coach added.
Iran will play Serbia on Saturday while Turkey is scheduled to face New Zealand.
