Iran's GC okays plan to implement subsidy reform plan
TEHRAN, Aug. 8 (MNA) – The Guardian Council has approved the articles of the association of the organization tasked to implement the subsidy reform plan which had been previously ratified by the cabinet, the GC spokesman announced on Saturday.
The Guardian Council studied the articles of the association of the organization on June 28 and found the plan compatible with the constitution and the Islamic law, Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei stated.
Subsidy reform plan allows the government to phase out energy and food subsidies and redirect the savings into the production sector.
President Ahmadinejad believes his government will save up to 30 percent of its annual budget by cutting back on subsidies on gasoline and other refined products, natural gas, electricity, water, and bread.
The president had formerly announced that the plan will be implemented in the second half of the Iranian calendar year which started on March 21.
