Iran, Iraq agree to set budget to stem dust pollution

TEHRAN, Aug. 8 (MNA) – Tehran and Baghdad have agreed to set a budget to fund a project to halt dust clouds originating from Iraq and then smearing over Iran’s sky.

According to the agreement, the two countries also undertook to request the help of international organizations in this endeavor.

The agreement was signed during a five day conference (Aug. 2 to 6) in Tehran. The conference was attended by the two countries’ environment officials.

In addition, it was decided that an expert committee from Iran travel to Iraq in order to visit the areas where dust clouds are first formed.

Iraq says it cannot lonely control the dust storms blowing into Iran.

Kamal Hussein, the Iraqi deputy environment minister, said last Tuesday that his country is grappling with major problems including security problems to the extent that environmental issues are not a priority right now.
