7 die in water accidents amid summer vacation season+



TOKYO, Aug. 8 Kyodo -
At least seven people died and two others are in serious condition following
water accidents across Japan on Sunday, about half way through the summer
vacation season, according to a Kyodo News tally.
Including mountain accidents, a total of 13 people were injured and one is
missing.
The dead included five men aged between 34 and 66 who drowned while swimming in
the sea in Tottori, Oita, Shimane, Okinawa and Ibaraki prefectures.
A woman died after a personal watercraft crashed into another at Lake Biwa --
Japan's largest lake in Shiga Prefecture -- and a 44-year-old man died after
practicing paragliding on a beach in Miyazaki Prefecture.
The two people in serious condition are a 5-year-old girl from Tokyo who was
swimming in a pool in Nagano Prefecture and a 73-year-old man who was found
floating unconscious at a beach in Saga Prefecture.
