Some ambassadors take over as Iran presidential envoys

TEHRAN, Aug. 10 (MNA) – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has appointed some ambassadors as his special envoys to certain countries.

The measure has been taken with the aim to increase the authority of the ambassadors and the president to personally pursue the issues more seriously, the Mehr News Agency has learnt.

The names of ambassadors have not been released yet, but it is said that the ambassadors to the neighboring countries, Latin America, and Africa are on the list.

The Ahamdinejad administration has put developing ties with African and Latin American countries atop its foreign policy agenda.

Iran has already established cordial ties with socialist-run countries in Latin America including Venezuela, Brazil, and Bolivia.

Relations between Iran and Turkey have also improved during the Ahmadinejad presidency.

Turkey and Brazil brokered a nuclear deal with Tehran on April 17 according to which Iran would ship 1200 kilograms of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey to be exchanged for 120 kilograms of 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel rods to power the Tehran research reactor.
