NETPAC celebration to screen Iranian films
TEHRAN, Aug. 13 (MNA) -- Three Iranian films will go on screen from August 18 to September 2 along with thirty other films at an international conference called NETPAC@20: The Culture and Politics of Asian Cinema in New Delhi.
At the event for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC), thirty-one Asian films that have won the NETPAC Award at major international film festivals from 1994-2010 will be screened.
“These films have also won several other prestigious awards at important international festivals such as Berlin, Venice, Locarno, Montreal, Moscow, Yamagata, Istanbul, Nantes, Thessaloniki, Vancouver, Hawaii, Singapore, Pusan etc,” as is mentioned on the NETPAC website.
Asghar Farhadi’s “About Elly”, which shared the NETPAC Jury Award with Thailand’s “Agrarian Utopia” at the 18th Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) in Australia in 2009, is on the screening schedule.
“Birth of a Butterfly” by Mojtaba Raei, which shared the NETPAC Jury Award with “Pila Balde” by Jeffrey Jeturian (Philippines) at the Cinemanila International Film Festival in the Philippines in 2009, also will be on screen at the event.
Bahman Farmanara’s “Smell of Camphor, Fragrance of Jasmine” will also screen at the program. The movie won the NETPAC Award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2001.
“Tulpan” by Sergei Dvortsevoy (Kazakhstan), “Fishing Platform” by Ravi L Bharwani (Indonesia) and “Dreams” by Mohammad al-Daradji (Iraq) will also be among the films.
