Iran basketball’s 3-on-3 defeats Egypt in YOG

SINGAPORE, Aug. 15 (MNA) -- Iran basketball’s 3-on-3 beat Egypt in the first day of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games on Sunday.

Iran defeated Egyptian team 27-21 at Group B. The west Asian team is scheduled to play Lithuania on Monday.

A total of 16 basketball teams are participating in four groups in the event.

“Iran deserved to win against Egypt but my team can show a better performance in the upcoming matches. We are going to get medal in the event,” Iran coach Ghasem Kiani said.

The 2010 Youth Olympic Games has brought together 3,600 athletes ages 14 to 18 from 204 countries competing in 26 sports.
