Tehran show of French photographer makes unannounced move

TEHRAN, Aug. 16 (MNA) -- Enthusiastic visitors and invited guests who had come to see an exhibit of works by French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand encountered closed doors at the Iranian Academy of Arts.

The Iranian Academy of Arts organized the exhibit of works by Arthus-Bertrand, who is known primarily for his aerial pictures, but in the end did not designate a location for the show, so the exhibit was transferred to the Malek Museum without any prior announcement.

Visitors were informed of the location change by two individuals who guided them to a bus to take them to the Malek Museum.

However, the exhibit entitled “6 Billion Others” was opened with an hour delay. Project director Sibylle d’Orgeval was seen among the participating guests.

“6 Billion Others” refers to one of Arthus-Bertrand’s video exhibitions by the same name that took place in early 2009 at the Grand Palais in Paris. The exhibition screened over 5,000 videos, which had been recorded around the globe, showing women and men talking about universal themes such as happiness, sorrow, life, death, love and hatred.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sibylle d’Orgeval said that the current video project is a summary of the original one screened in two separate parts. The duration of the original is 20 hours.

“The first part features how Yann and I met individuals in different regions and the second shows excerpts of the interviews,” he remarked.

Arthus-Bertrand, 64, is also an outstanding environmentalist as he has shown marked enthusiasm for nature and wildlife from an early age.

He has been the United Nations Environment Program Goodwill Ambassador (UNEP) since April 2009.

Located in the vicinity of Baq-e-Melli in downtown Tehran, the Malek Museum is home to over 18,000 historical manuscripts in various languages.
