Interior minister takes over as Iran anti-drug chief

TEHRAN, Aug. 17 (MNA) – The president has appointed Interior Minister Mostafa-Mohammad Najjar as the director of Anti-Narcotics Headquarters.

Heretofore, National Police Chief Esmaeil Ahmadi Moqadam held the position.

Iran, as a neighbor of Afghanistan which produces about 90 percent of the world opium, is an easy destination for drug trafficking.

Traffickers also use Iran’s soil as a transit route to Europe.
