Cutting working hours in Ramadan unlawful: Iran MP

TEHRAN, Aug. 17 (MNA) – MP Mohammad Reza Khabbaz says reduction of working hours during the holy month of Ramadan is against the law.

Khabbaz said a letter has been sent to the government in this regard. He said the letter is being signed by Guardian Council spokesman Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei.

Ahmadinejad’s administration had previously announced that working hours will be reduced by 1 to 3 hours during the lunar month of Ramadan.

The Majlis is studying a guideline set by the government suggesting “teleworking” to compensate the lost working hours, Khabbaz told the Mehr News Agency.

Teleworking means working at home, or at a telecenter near to home, for some of or all of the time.

Khabbaz went on to say that the result of this study will be announced, and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani will give his comments on it which will then be communicated to the government.

Mostafa Pourmohammadi, director of the State Inspectorate Organization, has also stated that working hours is 44 hours a week and cannot be changed.

Such decision cannot be made without the Majlis approval, Pourmohammadi underlined.

He added that last year the State Inspectorate Organization presented a report to the Court of Administrative Justice regarding the government’s decision.
