Iran police chief praises Majlis law in reducing accidents

TEHRAN, Aug. 18 (MNA) – In a letter to Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, police chief Esmaeil Ahmadi Moqadam commended the parliament’s efforts in ratifying a law to reduce road accidents.

Unfortunately, about 23,000 people are killed and around 200,000 are injured in road accidents annually, and these tragic statistics suggest that the current driving law was ratified 40 years ago which is no longer efficient to deal with traffic offenders, the letter reads.

It added that the necessity to ratify a comprehensive and modern law, compatible with the current needs of the society and based on the use of advanced monitoring equipment was greatly felt.
