Japan, China, S. Korea seek 26 mil. tourist visits in 2015+



HANGZHOU, China, Aug. 22 Kyodo -
The tourism ministers of Japan, China and South Korea agreed Sunday to aim to
have 26 million people visit each other's countries in 2015, almost double the
figure for 2009.
The new target was included in a joint statement compiled at the trilateral
ministerial meeting in China which noted that the three countries' earlier goal
of 17 million tourist ''intervisitations'' in 2010 is expected to be achieved.
A total of 13.5 million people traveled between the three countries in 2009.
Japan's Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Minister Seiji Maehara told
a press conference after signing the statement, ''It is significant that the
three countries set a target and confirmed what must be done to that end.''
The three ministers also decided to share information that affects tourism,
including information on major natural disasters and the outbreak of infectious
diseases, as part of efforts to promote tourism in East Asia, according to
their statement.
They also agreed in the fifth trilateral tourism ministerial meeting to
cooperate in developing and utilizing areas such as health care, sports,
movies, animations, and food and beverages as resources for tourism.
Maehara, Chinese National Tourism Administration Chairman Shao Qiwei and South
Korean Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Yu In Chon are in the Hangzhou area
in Zhejiang Province for a series of related meetings from Saturday to Monday.
