Brazil, Turkey’s participation in Vienna talks would be ‘natural’: Iran MP
TEHRAN, Aug. 24 (MNA) – A top lawmaker says it would be considered “natural” that Brazil and Turkey participate in Iran’s talks with the Vienna group (the U.S., Russia, and France) as the three countries of Iran, Turkey, and Brazil are the architects of the Tehran nuclear declaration which has laid the basis for a nuclear fuel swap deal.
Regarding the fact that Iran, Turkey and Brazil submitted the declaration to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the three countries must be present at the negotiating table, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, suggested.
The Tehran nuclear deal, known as the Tehran Declaration, was signed by foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey, and Brazil in Tehran on May 17.
According to the deal Iran would ship 1200 kilograms of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey to be exchanged for 120 kilograms of 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel rods to power the Tehran research reactor, which produces radioisotopes for cancer treatment.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the MP said the Supreme National Security Council will decide on the involvement of some countries in Iran’s negotiations with the group 5+1 (the U.S., Britain, France, Russia, and China, plus Germany).
