Impeachment bid launched against agriculture, energy ministers

TEHRAN, Aug. 25 (MNA) – Impeachment bids have been lodged against Agriculture Minister Sadeq Khalilian and Energy Minister Majid Namjoo.

A large number of lawmakers have signed letters listing questions from the ministers, MP Mousa al-Reza Servati told the Mehr News Agency.

He added that certain MPs are also seeking to impeach Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar.

Writers of the impeachment bid against Khalilian have cited excessive import of agricultural products, his incompetence, and disregard for insurance fund of agricultural crops as the major reasons to impeach the minister.

25 MPs sign letter to impeach energy minister

Mohammad Reza Haji Asghari, an MP sitting on the Majlis Agriculture Committee, says the impeachment bid against the energy minister is primarily based on expert studies conducted by the Majlis committee.

Haji Asghari said certain ratified plans which their implementation fall under the jurisdiction of the Energy Ministry have not been fulfilled properly. He also cited the appointment of inexperienced persons in certain jobs as another reason for the impeachment bid.

He said 25 MPs have signed the letter for impeaching the energy minister.

“Due to expert studies conducted, Majlis representatives have welcomed impeachment and so far the number of signatures for impeachment has reached 25.”
