90 percent of parties inactive: Iran MP
TEHRAN, Aug. 25 (MNA) – MP Hamid-Reza Fouladgar says license has been issued for about 250 political parties and associations but about 90 percent of them are not presently active.
Making amendments to the Parties Law and closer supervision over the activities of the parties can make them more dynamic, said Fouladgar, a member of the Article 10 Commission of the Parties Law.
People are somewhat suspicious of the parties’ activities, the MP noted, adding parties themselves must try to regain the lost confidence.
The Article 10 Commission of the Parties Law is a body that is comprised of the representatives from the Interior Ministry, Judiciary and the Parliament with the main responsibility of issuing license for the activities of political parties and supervision over their activities. Its members are elected for a period of two years.
