'Police can barricade volatile borders sooner than expected'

KHORRAMABAD, Aug. 30 (MNA) - If necessary fund is allocated police will build barricades in border regions used by hooligans and drug traffickers in three years rather five years, deputy police chief Ahmad Reza Radan has said.

Security issues and drug smuggling to the country have made it essential to guard borders closely, Radan told reporters in Khorramabad on Sunday.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the commander noted police are seriously hunting down the perpetrators of Zahedan terrorist attack.

On July 15, two bombs were detonated in quick succession in front of the Zahedan Grand Mosque. Twenty-seven people were killed and about 300 others were injured in the incident.

Police have arrested 40 people in connection with the twin bomb attacks.

Radan went on to say that Iran has also given an ultimatum to Pakistan for cooperation in identifying the people behind the vicious act.
