Awakening of resistance movements will lead to victory: Iran
TEHRAN, Aug. 31 (MNA) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says that the enemies are doomed to failure because of the unprecedented awakening of resistance movements in the region.
Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with senior officials of Lebanon’s Amal movement in Tehran on Sunday, which was the thirty-second anniversary of Imam Musa al-Sadr’s abduction.
The Iranian and Lebanese nations shoulder common and great responsibilities in the face of the actions of the arrogant powers and the enemies of humanity, the Iranian president noted.
He went on to say that the enemies are seeking to undermine the unity and security of Lebanon, but Lebanese resistance movements will foil their plots through solidarity and wisdom.
"The global arrogance and materialistic systems have reached an impasse, and the world is in dire need of justice," he noted.
The fate of al-Sadr must also be determined, he stated.
High-ranking officials of the Amal movement briefed the Iranian president about the latest regional developments and said that they are seriously pursuing the case of Imam Musa al-Sadr.
Khalil Hamdan, a member of the Amal presiding board, also held separate talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday.
In August 1978, al-Sadr departed for Libya with two companions to meet officials of Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi’s government. They were never heard from again, and many believe they met with foul play at the hands of Qadhafi.
In August 2008, Lebanon issued an arrest warrant for Qadhafi and 11 other Libyan officials, charging them with kidnapping al-Sadr. Qadhafi was also indicted for "inciting the abduction" of the senior cleric.
Libya has denied responsibility, claiming that al-Sadr and his companions left Libya for Italy in 1978. However, many believe that al-Sadr is still alive and is being held in a secret jail in Libya.
In a recent statement, Hezbollah said Libya is first and foremost responsible for al-Sadr’s disappearance.
During Hamdan’s meeting with Larijani, the Iranian parliament speaker said the issue of Imam Musa al-Sadr’s abduction is a major concern for the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Iranian nation will always stand beside the Lebanese nation and help them stand up to the Zionist regime, he added.
During Hamdan’s meeting with Mottaki, the Iranian foreign minister stated that the Islamic resistance movement Hezbollah and the Lebanese army will both help maintain the integrity of the Lebanese nation in the face of the Israeli threats.
And Iran will always support Lebanon, Mottaki added.
