Pirates rob money from tanker operated by Japanese firm off Indonesia+
TOKYO, Sept. 5 Kyodo -
Two pirates armed with knives robbed money from a chemical tanker operated by a
Japanese firm while it was sailing off the Anambas Islands, Indonesia, at
around 3 a.m. local time Sunday, Japan's transport ministry said.
None of the 20 crew members from South Korea and Myanmar was injured, while the
30,350-ton Chemroad Luna, operated by Tokyo-based Iino Kaiun Kaisha Ltd., was
not damaged, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and
Tourism.
The two pirates boarded the ship and fled after stealing cash, the ministry said.
It is the ninth incident this year in which a ship operated by a Japanese firm
has been attacked by pirates.
The tanker is transporting chemical products from Singapore to China and is on
schedule.
