Impeachment motion against Iran agriculture minister postponed again
TEHRAN, Sept. 6 (MNA) – MP Mohammad Karami-Rad says declaring an impeachment motion against Agricultural Jihad Minister Sadeq Khalilian has been postponed once more as Majlis is set for a two-week recess.
If the parliament agrees with the proposal, Khalilian will face impeachment after 10 days, however, this is not possible regarding the Majlis' two-week holidays, Karami-Rad told the Mehr News Agency on Monday.
However, the writers of the impeachment motion will hold a session with the minister on Monday which was supposed to be held last week, he announced.
The MP also expressed hope that the minister would take necessary measures to rectify the situation before his impeachment.
He added Khalilian will face impeachment unless he “does wonders”.
In early July, 30 lawmakers lodged an impeachment complaint against Khalilian to the parliament’s presiding board.
Writers of the impeachment bid have cited excessive import of agricultural crops, his incompetence, and disregard for establishing an insurance fund for agricultural crops as the major reasons for the move.
