Tehran-Doha cooperation will reduce outside threats: Ahmadinejad

DOHA, Sept. 7 (MNA) – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says expansion of cooperation between Iran and Qatar will improve regional security and reduce extra regional threats.

Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani in Doha on Sunday.

Vigilance of the two countries’ officials could help establish lasting security in the region, Ahmadinejad stated.

Qatari Emir, for his part, welcomed promotion of bilateral ties, saying it will benefit both countries and the region.

‘Israel will be wiped off the map if it attacks Iran’

In a joint press conference with the Qatari emir, Ahmadinejad said neither the Zionist regime nor the U.S. are capable of attacking Iran.
The Iranian president warned that any Tel Aviv’s military action against Iran will “wipe Israel off the face of the earth”

The president also said the U.S. has waged a psychological warfare campaign in the Middle East to sow discord among regional states.

Ahmadinejad told reporters that he and the Qatari emir discussed problems faced by regional countries including Palestine, Afghanistan and Pakistan and came up with some solutions to settle the crises.

The Qatari leader praised Iran’s stance toward regional issues, highlighting the importance of bilateral cooperation to maintain peace in the region.

During his one-day visit, President Ahmadinejad also held separate talks with a number of ambassadors and Iranian nationals residing in Qatar.

------- Ahmadinejad’s visit to Qatar significant

Al-Sharq, a Doha-based newspaper, has described Ahmadinejad’s visit to Qatar as significant regarding the current condition in the region.

President Ahmadinejad and the Qatari emir exchanged views on expansion of ties as well the crises in the region, reaffirming their shared views about regional issues, Al-Sharq reported.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, Health Minister Marzieh Vahid Dastjerdi, president’s chief of staff Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, and senior presidential adviser Ali Akbar Javanfekr as well as a number of cabinet members were accompanying Ahmadinejad in the visit.

Ahmadinejad returned home early on Monday.
