Iran to host ECO pre-summit meet next week
TEHRAN, Sept. 7 (MNA) – The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) members will be gathering in Tehran next week to attend a pre-summit, a top Interior Ministry official has announced.
It is a pre-summit for the main meeting which will be held in Istanbul in the near future, Deputy Interior Minister Mehdi Mohammadifard told the Mehr News Agency in an interview published on Monday.
He said senior officials in international affairs from member states will attend the meeting, he added.
Mohammadifard also noted that participants will discuss organized crime and security issues in the two-day summit.
ECO is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey for the purpose of promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among the member states.
Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan are the current members of ECO.
