Qajar era photos on display at Venice show

TEHRAN, Sept. 18 (MNA) -- A collection of photos dating back to the Qajar era is currently on display in an exhibition at the Marciana National Library in Venice.

The exhibit entitled “An Italian in Persia” showcases 33 photos by Italian photographer Luigi Montabone, who was dispatched by the Italian government for a mission to Iran in 1862.

Montabone’s complete album was put on display from February 11 April 5 at the National Institute for Graphics in Rome in the exhibit “The Qajar Persia: Italian Photographers in Iran 1848-1864”.

The exhibit, organized to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the National Institute for Graphics, was dedicated to a group of Italian photographers who worked in Iran during the reign of the Qajar king, Nasser ad-Din Shah (1831-1896).

The collection will be transferred to the Fotomuseo Giuseppe Panini, the Italian museum and archive of historical photography, in Modena for a show that will be held from November 27, 2010 to February 27, 2011.
