Iranian puppet show to go on stage at Tbilisi festival
TEHRAN, Sept. 18 (MNA) -- Veteran Iranian stage director Behruz Gharibpur will stage his puppet show “Rustam and Sohrab” at Tbilisi International Festival of Theater on October 11 and 12.
The festival covered all the troupe’s expenses and their tickets for travel are provided by Iran’s the Center for Dramatic Arts of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Gharibpur told the Persian service of ISNA.
This shows that a festival can cover expenses for a particular group if it wants. It was not easy to convince them to pay for a 30-member troupe since many galas only have budgets for small groups, he added.
“We also plan to stage ‘Macbeth’ puppet show at the festival but we gave up on the idea due to financial shortfalls,” Gharibpur stated.
His puppet show “Ashura” will go on stage at the Charleville Mezieres Puppet Festival which will be held from September 23 to 26 and “Rumi” puppet show will go on stage this coming November in Dubai, he announced.
Troupes from eleven countries including the UK, Italy, Germany, France, Iran and Russia attended the festival which will run from September 29 to October 14.
