Iran, Japan hold human rights talks in Tokyo
TEHRAN, Sept. 21 (MNA) – Iran and Japan held their sixth round of talks on human rights in Tokyo on Monday.
The two sides discussed pros and cons of international commitment to human rights.
The Iranian delegation said it is necessary that every country live up to its promises on human rights treaties and called for an end to discriminatory and double standard policy toward certain nations.
The Iranian side also said some countries are using the human rights issue as a tool against others, noting such an approach discredit the international human rights conventions and institutions.
The Islamic Republic voiced its readiness for the continuation of constructive and transparent talks based on equality and mutual respect.
The Iranian representatives and officials from the Japanese Foreign Ministry held separate talks on various issues including eradication of nuclear weapons, the implementation of agreements signed in the revision conference of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, Tehran-Tokyo cooperation on peaceful nuclear activities and the latest developments in ties between the two countries.
The seventh round of talks would probably be held in Tehran next year.
