Narita Airport immigration office questioning Paris Hilton+

NARITA, Japan, Sept. 21 Kyodo -
The Narita Airport immigration office questioned American model and actress
Paris Hilton for hours on Tuesday to determine if she should be allowed to
enter Japan after her chartered plane landed there, the Tokyo Regional
Immigration Bureau said.
The immigration authorities adjourned the questioning of Hilton, 29, who was
convicted of possessing cocaine, later in the day and asked her to stay at a
hotel in the airport so that they can continue the immigration procedures on
Wednesday, they said.
The great-granddaughter of Conrad Hilton, the founder of Hilton Hotels, was
arrested for cocaine possession in August, and then received a suspended
sentence at a court in Las Vegas, Nevada.
While she was scheduled to appear at a fashion show in Tokyo's ritzy Roppongi
area on Wednesday, an official at the public relations company in charge of the
event said the show has been canceled, adding, ''We cannot specify the
reason.''
Under Japanese law, immigration authorities are empowered to deny entry to
those who have been convicted of drug-related offenses.
