Tehran Symphony Orchestra leaves performance unfinished
TEHRAN, Sept. 22 (MNA) -- The Tehran Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Majid Entezami left its performance at Tehran’s Azadi Tower unfinished.
The open-air concert staged on September 21, the first day of Iran’s Sacred Defense Week, was brought to an end without the performance of several musical selections scheduled on the program.
Vocalist Nima Masiha and Mohammad Abdolhosseini were accompanying the orchestra for this performance.
Based on a poem by Saed Baqeri, the symphony was composed in four movements named Ascension, Germination, Hope and Resistance. It was to be followed by excerpts from the soundtracks for the two movies “From Karkheh to Rhine”, and the “Glass Agency” by director Ebrahim Hatamaikia.
“We were forced to omit the last two compositions due to the inadequacies of the sound-recording system in the open-air concert at the tower,” Masiha told the Persian service of IRNA.
However, conductor Entezami explained the reason as “I thought the last two compositions would make participants in the audience feel sad and I preferred that people leave the concert energized and with uplifted spirit.
“The concert had several deficiencies such as inappropriate lighting and sound-recording, but its peak positive point was that it made people more familiar with music,” he added.
Entezami was also to give a solo performance on the oboe (double-reed woodwind instrument) as previously arranged, but this performance was also dropped from the concert’s program. When questioned about the omission, it was explained that the oboe solo performance was not possible in an open-air venue and that Entezami would give the performance some time later at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall.
The concert was arranged by the Iranian Music Association and the Rudaki Foundation, the Enqelab Cultural Center of the Azadi Art and Cultural Complex and District 9 of Tehran’s Municipality.
Sacred Defense Week, which is celebrated annually in Iran, begins on the first day (September 22 this year) of the Iran-Iraq war (1980-88) to honor the martyrs and veterans of the imposed war.
