Tehran lauds UN report blaming Israel for flotilla tragedy

TEHRAN, Sept. 25 (MNA) – Iran backs the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) which has censured Israel for violating international law during the flotilla raid.

“Iran supports the adoption of a resolution by the UN fact-finding committee, condemning the Zionist regime for its brutal attack on Freedom Flotilla,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast said in a statement.

“This incident revealed the inhumane nature of this regime,” he opined.

He also called for prompt prosecution of the criminal leaders of the Zionist regime by the international courts for their role in this crime against humanity.

According to a report released on Wednesday by the UN Human Rights Council, Israeli forces violated international law “including international human rights law” during and after their raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla in May.

According to the Associated Press, the UN fact-finding mission says Israel’s naval blockade of the Palestinian territory was “unlawful” because of a humanitarian crisis there at the time.

The report also says Israel’s military response to the flotilla was “disproportionate” and “betrayed an unacceptable level of brutality.”
