400,000 cars added to Tehran’s fleet
TEHRAN, Sept. 25 (MNA) – In the past twelve months 400,000 cars have been added to the capital city of Tehran, Tehran Municipality has announced.
2,000 kilometers of road must be constructed each year if these cars are parked in a row, Tehran Deputy Mayor Jafar Tashakori-Hashemi said in a joint meeting of Tehran traffic police and municipality on Thursday.
Presently 3,600,000 cars are in Tehran while the city has the capacity of less than 1,000,000 cars, he added.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Tashakori-Hashemi noted that 22 million people are transported in Tehran each day, of which 75 percent must use public transportation according to the law.
Such a law must be taken as a criterion to develop public transportation, he stated.
