Iranian parliament to study Moscow’s failure in missile delivery

TEHRAN, Sept. 26 (MNA) – As Tehran has reprimanded Russia for failing to honor its deal to deliver the S-300 missile system to Iran, MP Hossein Ebrahimi said on Saturday the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee will investigate Russia’s move.

Ebrahimi made the remarks in response to Russian Chief of Staff General Nikolai Makarov’s comments in which he had said the delivery of S-300 missiles would breach the United Nations’ sanctions against Tehran.

The MP said Russian officials should not be influenced by the Western powers, adding that Moscow will stand to lose from such actions.

According to the contract signed in 2005, Russia was required to deliver S-300 systems to Iran.

“Such actions will serve the United States, and will be a loss to Russia,” commented Ebrahimi, the parliamentary committee deputy chairman.

Russia should honor its commitments and refrain from creating restrictions, the cleric lawmaker noted.

Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi announced on Wednesday that Iran will produce an advanced anti-aircraft missile system similar to S-300 in the near future.

“We have planned to build a long-range air defense missile system similar to S-300… and we will reach self-sufficiency in this regard,” he said.
