Iran loses to Egypt at volleyball worlds
MILAN, Italy, Sept. 26 (MNA) -- Iranian volleyball team started the 2010 FIVB Men’s World Championship with a defeat.
The Asian powerhouse lost to Egypt in straight sets 25-21, 25-17, 25-21 in front of about 6,000 spectators.
Egyptian Ahmed Abdelhay was the match’s top scorer with 19 points.
“I would like to give my congratulations to Mr. Giacobbe and his team,” Hossein Madani said in the post match news conference. "We had problems with reception. I am sure and I hope we will play better and we will manage to control the atmosphere of the championship,” he added.
Iran will play Japan on Sunday in Pool A. On Monday Iran will take on the hosts, Italy.
Ali Saeidlu President of Iran's Physical Education Organization attended this match.
A total of 24 teams divided into six groups of four are taking part in the 2010 FIVB Men’s World Championship in Milan, Italy. The event will end on October 10.
