China tightens customs procedures for trade with Japan+

BEIJING, Sept. 27 Kyodo -
Chinese authorities have tightened customs procedures for trade between China
and Japan amid deterioration in bilateral relations, Japanese logistics company
officials said Monday.
Chinese customs authorities told Japanese logistics companies last Tuesday they
will carry out X-ray inspection on 100 percent of exports via air cargo to
Japan and unpacking checks on 50 percent of such products, the officials said.
The rates are sharply higher than usual levels.
The logistics companies have suffered similar inconveniences for imports from
Japan, they said.
''When Japan-China relations worsen, the Chinese side employs this kind of
measures,'' a Japanese logistics company official said. ''We expect (China) to
ease the ongoing measures as relations gradually improve.''
