Sakineh Ashtiani is sentenced to death: Iran's prosecutor

TEHRAN, Sept. 28 (MNA) – Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani has received a death sentence for committing murder and this sentence has precedence over her crime for doing adultery, announced National Prosecutor General Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei.

“According to the court’s ruling, she is convicted of murder and her death sentence has priority over her punishment (for committing adultery),” Mohseni-Ejei told a press conference on Monday.

The prosecutor’s remark means that Ashtiani will not be stoned to death for committing adultery, because she should first be executed for murder.

“The issue should not be politicized and the Judiciary will not be influenced by the propaganda campaign launched by the Western media,” added Mohseni-Ejei who also serves as the Judiciary spokesman.

The Ashtiani case has been hyped by the Western media outlets.

Leaders of ‘sedition’ will face trial if don’t repent

On the case of the opposition leaders (Mahdi Karroubi and Mir-Hossein Mousavi), he said if they insist on their stances, they will be tried.

“The leaders of sedition have undermined the interests of the nation and system. Undoubtedly, they will be tried if they don’t repent their actions and express their regret publicly,” he said.
