Tehran condemns U.S. sanctions on Iranian officials

TEHRAN, Oct. 2 (MNA) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has condemned the recent U.S. financial and travel sanctions against eight Iranian officials as a clear sign of interference in the Islamic Republic’s internal affairs.

The U.S. administration issued an order on Wednesday imposing travel and financial restrictions on eight senior Iranian officials, accusing them of human rights abuses during post-election unrest in Iran in 2009. The order will also freeze any assets held by the individuals in the United States.

The measure proves the U.S. support for “sedition” in Iran in a clear violation of international law, Mehmanparast said in a statement on Thursday.

Mehmanparast went on to say that through this measure Washington sought to deflect the world’s public opinion from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s recent remarks on the 9/11 attacks in the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.

The spokesperson said Iran will pursue the issue through international legal channels.

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki also said on Thursday that sanctions on Iranian officials indicated the United States has reached a deadlock in its support for the post-election “sedition game”.
