Visitors see no slogans, portraits for Kim Jong Un in N. Korea+

BEIJING, Oct. 2 Kyodo -
There were no slogans, portraits or publicity pictures linked to Kim Jong Un,
who was recently tapped as North Korean leader Kim Jong Il's successor, in the
country, tourists said Saturday after a weeklong trip to Pyongyang and Kaesong.
The tourists said they saw many North Korean citizens looking closely at a
photo of Kim Jong Un, Kim Jong Il's third son, and other leading officials of
the Workers' Party of Korea that was carried on the front page of the Thursday
issue of the party's Rodong Sinmun newspaper.
They said state-run television kept playing programs featuring Tuesday's
conference of party delegates where the 27-year-old Jong Un was named a vice
chairman of the party's Central Military Commission.
The appointment made it certain that the younger Kim is in line to become the
country's next leader.
Some tourists reported seeing the return in Pyongyang of a signboard
advertising domestically made computer numerical control machine tools and the
''Unha-2'' rocket carrying the ''Kwangmyongsong-2'' satellite, both of which
are known in the country as achievements by Kim Jong Un.
The tourists quoted North Korean officials as saying that citizens were
primarily celebrating Kim Jong Il's reelection as the party's general secretary
at the delegates' conference, and that they were rehearsing for events
celebrating the 65th anniversary of the party's founding on Oct. 10.
