Iran dismisses news on seizure of Iranian cargo in Afghanistan

TEHRAN, Oct. 9 (MNA) -- In a statement issued on Friday, the Iranian embassy in Kabul vigorously dismissed news that 19 tons of explosives seized by the Afghan officials were smuggled from Iran.

On Tuesday, some foreign news media reported that authorities in the Afghanistan’s southwestern province of Nimruz have seized 19 tons of explosive devices that had been transferred across the border from Iran.

According to an official in Nimruz province, the contents of the cargo were fireworks, belonged to an Afghan and had been transited to Afghanistan from China, the statement reads.

Such false news is intended to strain the relations between Iran and Afghanistan, it added.

Iran’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Fada Hossein Maleki, said Afghan officials have expressed regret that the cargo has been linked to Iran.

The news was possibly a plot to damage Iran’s amicable ties with Afghanistan, Maleki told the Mehr News Agency on Thursday.
