5 martyred in terrorist attack in Iran’s Kordestan
TEHRAN, Oct. 9 (MNA) – Two gunmen opened fire on several policemen on patrol on Thursday at a square in the western city of Sanandaj in Kordestan province, killing four policemen and a bystander.
At 17:10 (local time), two unidentified gunmen, connected to counter-revolutionary groups, opened fire on several policemen on patrol and pedestrians at the Azadi square of Sanandaj,” Ebrahim Kazeminejad, the provincial deputy police chief said on Thursday.
“Four policemen and one civilian were martyred in the incident,” he said.
Five other policemen and four civilians were also injured in the attack, one of them in a critical condition, he added.
Efforts are under way to identify and arrest the gunmen, he emphasized.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
