Isfahan displays cultural side of Afghan migrants

TEHRAN, Oct. 10 (MNA) -- Isfahan is featuring a new aspect of Afghan migrants in Iran by displaying their art and cultural productions.

The first festival of art and cultural productions of Afghan migrants opened at Farshchian Complex in Isfahan on October 6.

Sponsored by ECO Cultural Institute (ECI), the festival covers different sections displaying artworks such as carpet weaving, calligraphy, traditional costumes, sculpture and several others.

Afghanistan’s traditional cuisine, live music performances as well as film screening are also arranged at the program which will run until October 16.

ECI director Hojjatollah Ayyubi who was attending the opening ceremony in Isfahan is convinced that Afghan migrants in Iran are known as only those who are economic migrants. Iranian people are not familiar with the academic and cultural figures from Afghanistan.

“Many Afghan men and women who migrated to Iran began to study art despite all the difficulties and problems they have been through as migrants. Some even have turned out to be professionals,” he explained.

He added, “I made a trip to Afghanistan a while ago to launch the ECO office there. Upon seeing their efforts, we decided to introduce academic and cultural figures from Afghanistan to the Iranian nation.”

We are determined to organize a larger program in Tehran in the coming year, he added.
