Ahmadinejad to visit southern Lebanon

TEHRAN, Oct. 11 (MNA) -- President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to tour southern Lebanon during his visit to the country in the current week, his senior advisor Mojtaba Samareh Hashemi announced on Sunday.

Ahmadinejad will arrive in Beirut on October 13 for a two-day official visit. Ahmadinejad’s visit to southern Lebanon is of high importance as the south borders Israel.

He will also visit the Gate of Fatemia near the Israeli city of Metola.

Asked whether the president is scheduled to deliver a joint speech with Hezbollah leader Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, Samareh Hashemi said, “As far as I know, only a visit to southern Lebanon is on the agenda.”

On rumors that Manouchehr Mottaki, the foreign minister, will be replaced by Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the advisor said, “Why do reporters heed such rumors?”

Boroujerdi, a veteran diplomat, is currently the chairman of the Majlis Foreign Policy and National Security Committee.
