Iran loans Picasso painting to Zurich show

TEHRAN, Oct. 12 (MNA) -- A painting by Pablo Picasso has been loaned by the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA) to the Kunsthaus Zurich show.

“The Painter and His Model” will be put display in an exhibition, which will be held from October 15, 2010 to January 30, 2011 in Switzerland.

Picasso created the 214 x 200cm painting in 1927. The TMCA loaned the “The Painter and His Model” at the request of the Kunsthaus Zurich show.

The Kunsthaus exhibit will also hang some 70 of the major works chosen by Picasso for his retrospective held at the Kunsthaus and curated by the artist himself from September to November of 1932.

In tribute to the centenary of its founding, the Kunsthaus presents a brilliant homage to the artist featuring works from his early days as well as his blue and pink periods, his Cubist phase, and his ‘urbane’ classical period.

The selection comes from the most renowned collections and private lenders in Europe, the USA, and Japan.

In August 2010, the TMCA also agreed to loan a painting by Dutch artist Kees van Dongen (1877-1968) at the request of Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam.

The painting named “Trinidad Fernandez” (1907) is currently on display as a part of a show arranged by the museum under the title of “All eyes on Kees van Dongen”.
