‘5+1 group not serious about talks with Iran’
TEHRAN, Oct. 13 (MNA) -- The 5+1 group is not ready to hold talks with Iran, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast said on Tuesday.
“It seems that the other side is not ready for or serious about negotiations, because on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting, Iran voiced its readiness, but the other side was not ready,” Mehmanparast said during his weekly press briefing.
China, France, Russia, the United States, Britain, and Germany are the members of the 5+1 group.
On relations with Egypt, he said Tehran has not altered its stance and Iran advises Egyptian officials to take measures to prevent certain Western countries and the Zionist regime from taking advantage of the current internal situation in Egypt.
Asked about President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to Lebanon, he said Ahmadinejad will leave Tehran for Beirut on Wednesday for a two-day visit.
He will meet with the Lebanese president, prime minister, and parliament speaker as well as other senior officials, he added.
The two countries are scheduled to sign agreements in various areas such as trade, industry, water, electricity, health, the environment, and science, he stated.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said Iran welcomes any move that will lead to peace and stability in Afghanistan and Tehran is ready to play an effective role in solving regional problems.
On the legal regime of the Caspian Sea, he said the leaders of the Caspian Sea littoral states are scheduled to hold a meeting in Baku in November to discuss the issue.
