Ahmadinejad, Chavez hold talks

TEHRAN, Oct. 20 (MNA) – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez met on Tuesday and called for expansion of Tehran-Caracas relations.

In a meeting, the two sides stressed the need to utilize the current potential to increase ties in all areas.

Ahmadinejad and Chavez also discussed important regional and international issues.

Both presidents reiterated that Iran, Venezuela and other independent nations should cooperate to stand up to hegemonic powers’ bullying.

Ahmadinejad thanked Chavez for his stance against the sanctions imposed on Iran, saying Venezuela’s condemnation of the sanctions proves the strong and amicable ties between the two countries.

The Venezuelan president also described relations as strong, saying Caracas will always stand by Iran under any circumstances.

Chavez arrived in Tehran on Tuesday morning for a three-day visit. He was officially received by Ahmadinejad.
