G-7 financial leaders to meet in S. Korea on Friday
GYEONGJU, South Korea, Oct. 21 (Kyodo) - Financial leaders of the Group of Seven major industrialized nations will meet in Gyeongju on Friday to discuss the state of the global economy, Japanese Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda said Thursday.
Noda made the remarks to reporters in the South Korean city, where Group of 20
finance ministers and central bank governors will meet this weekend.
The G-7 gathering will follow one held in Washington early this month, at which
the finance chiefs agreed excessive volatility in the currency market is
undesirable and that they would cooperate in prodding emerging economies with
trade surpluses to shift to a more flexible currency policy.
The G-7 groups Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States. The G-20 covers the G-7 plus other developed and emerging economies.
The G-20 finance chiefs' talks will be followed by their leaders' summit in Seoul in November.
