Severance of diplomatic ties with Britain still on agenda’

TEHRAN, Oct. 24 (MNA) --Deputy head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Esmail Kosari has said a plan to cut diplomatic relations with Britain is still on the agenda of the parliament.

The examination of the plan is on the agenda and it has not been scrapped, Kosari told on Saturday.

He said after it was proved that Britain had been involved in the political unrest following the June 2009 presidential election, 35 MPs drafted a plan envisaging the severance of diplomatic ties with Britain and the closure of the British embassy in Iran, he said.

And Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani tasked the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee to examine the plan in detail, he explained.

“So the committee should make a decision in this regard.”

Kosari emphasized that the committee is in favor of the plan, but further examination is necessary.

“In a session of the committee, the members discussed various aspects of the issue and expressed their approval for the plan,” the lawmaker explained.

However, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki has urged MPs to take due care before making any decision regarding cutting relations with Britain, he noted.
